The short: I am loving this DVD player. So far, zero problems and it works beautifully with a professional install. My children are completely thrilled.The Long: I had the hardest time trying to find a DVD player for our van. It seemed like the reviews were so mixed. The last thing I wanted was to get one that didn’t work well after paying all of that money. I didn’t want a tiny screen, but I didn’t want a humungous one either. My husband pointed out that people often don’t write positive reviews, only negative ones when they are upset. So, I swore if I got one that I loved, I’d write a review and hopefully help someone else out. I thought this was a good “Medium” sized one. When I actually got it, it was a bit bigger than I expected, which turns out, wasn’t a bad thing. I was worried that if the screen was too big it would block the rearview mirror, but then I found out that ALL DVD systems block the rearview mirror when they are folded down for viewing. The unit hangs down about 11 and 1/4 inches from the roof and is about 13″ wide. You learn to lift it to see out the back and then pull it back down, or use your side mirrors, so it isn’t an issue. I read some reviews that said the DVD players come broken, and after an expensive install they had to pay to uninstall it and return it. This can easily be avoided by simply asking for the technician doing the install to check the unit before installing it or tearing apart your vehicle. They can “plug” it directly into your car battery and test it, or use other methods. Then, if it’s in working order it can be installed, if not you can return it and get a working one before going through the hassle of getting it installed and then removed. Luckily, we didn’t have any issues ourselves. HOWEVER, make sure that you go to a place that knows what they are doing to get your DVD player installed. I had called the closest Best Buy to me to get our installed through the Geek Squad and when we got there the “kid” saw our sun roof and said “oh, I can’t do that. Well, I can…but I’ll have to put it a lot further back, like almost to the third row seat because we can’t mess up the functionality of any of the vehicle parts”. My husband said he needed to think about it, then the kid admitted he’d never done a DVD install before, that he just does stereos. He told us to call a different guy at the Sandy, UT Best Buy location (Rick, I think) and see if he could do it. So, after losing our appointment and knowing that we might be told the same thing, we called the Sandy Best Buy’s Geek Squad. Rick (again, not 100% sure that was his name) told me that he could do it, no problem and actually had an hour and a half window that night and we could go get it done. The other store had quoted us 3 hours! A little over an hour and a half later, we had the DVD player installed, where we wanted it (right behind the 1st row of seats…behind the driver/passenger) and it doesn’t interfere at all with the functionality of the sunroof. We did have to pay an extra $20 to have a bracket built to put the DVD player on, but that’s small potatoes after all was said and done to have it taken care of properly. It’s working great and we all love it. I’m thrilled with it. Oh, the volume on the actual unit is pretty pitiful, but if you connect it through the car stereo it’s beautiful and crisp. Honestly, it doesn’t make sense to listen to it through the unit anyway because once you are driving, the sound from the road and “wind” and everything else would cause so much interference for those not sitting directly by the unit, so having it come through the car speakers just makes sense. Yes, I’d rather be listening to the radio than the kids movies, but alternate, they have to earn a movie by getting in their seats quickly and without complaining, so it works for us. We trade off.
